24 Nov Aerial Invert Tips: How to Start as a Beginner
I started with weak upper body strengthen, which made it very challenging to do an aerial invert. After spending hours to figure out how to grow as a beginner, you can find aerial invert tips, hope you will find this how to start as a beginner guide useful for your practice.
If you are also new to physical training, perhaps you are facing the same blocker I once had – My own mind. The thought of my arms are skinny and weak had made me start every practice with a bound-to-fail mindset.
“My arms are so weak. Of course I cant do it..”
“Aerial invert is challenging, impossible for beginners like me.”
I used to grab and pulled my hands as hard as I could and fail. Until one day I met an instructor that has fixed my mind, and I am sharing with you what did the trick!
Work on Your Mindset
“There are only a few groups of muscles on your arms, but your body has a lot more to offer. Why don’t you use them?”
Instead of thinking about grabbing and pulling hard, I started practicing engaging various groups of muscles at the same time. Making the connection between mind and body is a practice itself. Believe, practice, and keep going. Be very patient that it takes time, but your hard work will pay off.
Work on the Fear of Flipping Your Head Back and Down
Especially at the beginning, being upside down just feels unnatural. I have put together some drills to help you to strengthen your muscles and get used to inverting. If you are starting as a beginner or working toward full aerial inverts, feel free give this routine a try!
Drill 1 & 2: Floor exercises for core and legs
Drill 3: Revised floor exercise for the core. It helped my body to understand the motion of inverting.
Drill 4: Core and legs exercises on the hammock
Drill 5: Pulling yourself up to a ball and eventually into an invert
*Learning from my mistakes, jumping is not the best way to practice strength as it increases the risk of injury. I would not rely on jumping but keep trying to pull as much as you can to get into drill 5.
