What Is an Aerial Swivel?

Aerial swivel is a piece of hardware, usually made of steel, that helps keep your aerial hammock (or aerial silks) from twisting. I am exploring other hardware for a home aerial studio, but for now, this is what I have to help me spin.

How to Buy an Aerial Swivel

The most important thing when buying an aerial swivel is to make sure that the swivel is safe.

The swivel should be made of durable and strong materials such as aluminum or magnesium alloy. These materials are extremely light, but also very strong.

Also, the higher the number in kilonewtons (KN), the stronger the swivel.

Attaching the Swivel

Adding a swivel is a piece of cake! If you normally have your hammock set up with two points, this is what your gear might look like:

To add a swive, remove one carabiner for later.

Connect both of the ends of the hammock to the remaining carabiner. Attach one end of the aerial swivel to the carabiner alongside both ends of the hammock.

Then attach the other carabiner to the other end of the swivel, so you can use that to attach the hammock (now a sling) to your rig.
