How I Practice Aerial at Home: Buying Aerial Gear

I have been practicing Aerial Dance in my low ceiling home for more than 3 years now. Low ceiling practice has its own set of challenge. I love that it allows me to prepare for the next chance I get to fly high outdoor. In this post you will find what I learned about having an aerial rig at home. Hope it will help you out.

Some commonly asked numbers about my aerial home:

*Info below is based on my personal experience. It is by no means an instruction. If you have any doubts, discuss with your coach to see what’s right for you before buying.

How much height and space do you need for aerial dance?

The standard apartment height is about 2.4m-2.7m (8ft-9ft).

Regardless how much height you have, I would figure out whether there will be enough space for tricks I want to do before investing in an aerial rig at home.

With my low ceiling rig, I practice mostly aerial sling and aerial hoop, sometimes aerial silks tricks (very basic). You can better see how I use my set in these videos.

Is it safe for you to have an aerial rig at home?

Do not mount a set based on what you see online. You may need different parts for installations depends on the structure of your ceiling. I used ceiling mounts for my concrete ceiling. Consult a professional rigger, licensed contractor, or engineer help you with aerial installations – Safety first!

Where to buy aerial hammock and gear?

Buy from reputable vendors.

I have tried buying gear from many places. The last silks I received from Amazon was so disappointed that I vouched to never waste my money on bad products again.

Not that products on Amazon are bad, it is just difficult to see how credible they are. My favorite aerial suppliers are FireToys and Uplift Active. They ship worldwide and you can find Hoops, silks, and solid rigs from them.
