Pick the Perfect Aerial Hoop For Your Home

Back when I got my first aerial hoop, I was so happy but so confused at the same time. Buying a brand new hoop was a commitment and an investment to me. I was ready to buy my first hoop to get better at it, but how could I pick the perfect aerial hoop for my studio?

I have rig points installed at home already so in this post you will see a summary on things to consider, such as tape and size, when buying a hoop.

I hope this will help you out on picking the perfect aerial hoop for your home🙃.

How i pick my aerial hoop

How to pick an Aerial Hoop

Generally these are the 3 things you want to first consider:

*Info below is based on my personal preference. It is by no means an instruction. If you have any doubts, discuss with your coach to see what’s right for you before buying.

📏 Size

My Aerial Hoop is 95cm.

How I chose a 95cm Hoop: I measured my height from butt to head from a seated position, and added 10cm. That translated my ideal hoop size is of 100cm. I picked a size smaller (95cm) thinking that would give me the space to work on both tricks in the upper bar and under bar.
🧵 Taped or untaped

My Hoop is tapped.

I prefer tapped hoop because I don’t want to worry about sweaty hands or slipping off the hoop because my grips aren’t strong enough.

☝ Single, Double, or No Point Hoops

I got a single-point hoop.

This is simply because what I like to do on the hoop. Tricks on both hoops are equally as fun.

Gear for my Hoop

In a proper studio there is way less limitation. That’s why at home I have different gears to give me extra aerial space.

👶0.5m sling for

Rigging my hoop with a 0.5m feels like learning how to bike. My legs can easily lift off the ground after starting the spin, and carefully reach back the ground if I need to get down.

This way of practice helped me build confident around the hoop and learn how to spin.

📚 No sling for

Glad that I got a single point hoop, so I can get the most underbar space with just a carabiner attaching the hoop to my rig point.

Hanging a hoop with no sling allows me to hang upside down without my head reaching the ground. I can practice under bar straddles, knee hang, etc.

🔥1m sling for

Tricks outside of the hoop are challenging. I am less scared to try them now but boy.. I was literary always falling off from not having enough strength (which is why it is important to condition – Join Workout Challenge!)

To get the most aerial space I need my 1m sling for upper bar tricks.  The thrill of flying is what motivates me to get stronger so I can stop falling off and go further.
