The hip lock is one of the fundamental aerial skills. You can learn it with our hip lock tutorial before moving on to more advance tricks and poses.
If you are struggling with the hip lock, there are some exercises you can try. In Hip Lock and Fan Kick Drills video, Eunice shares 8 exercises you can do.
To do the hip lock, you will need to be able to do the Sitting Pose.
In the sitting position, hold the hammock with your right hand.
Use your left hand to guide your body forward and grab the hammock on the right under your right hand.
Both hammock ends should be on your right side.
Keep your legs straight and engaged.
From here, swing your left leg and draw a big circle to help bring your hips up into a hip lock.
Keep your right leg straight and cross your left leg over it, like your are sitting with your legs crossed.
You can let go of the hammock with your hands.
